On the 10th of October schools around the world will be celebrating World Mental Health Day and exploring ways that they can support their pupils’ mental health wellbeing at a time when the world is changing so rapidly.
To help you celebrate World Mental Health Day we have created a free assembly and a whole-school activity that you can use in your school to support your pupils. To access them for free, sign-up using the form below.
At tootoot we believe in making schools happier and safer places for everyone, and underpinning this vision is the understanding that to achieve this our children and young people have to speak-up about their concerns. Schools that use our app have found it decreases levels of cyberbullying and gives the pupils that wouldn’t have otherwise spoken up a way to talk about their concerns in confidence.
You can find out how we can support your pupils by booking a chat and demo with one of our safeguarding consultants today – click here to book.
The World Health Organisation defines Mental Health as a state of wellbeing where every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his or her community.
The advent of technologies such as smartphones has meant it has never been more important to make mental health a priority. We can access a wealth of information, keep in touch with friends around the world and improve our language and problem-solving skills – all at the click of a button. Technology has created a world of possibilities for our children and young people but also comes with its drawbacks. 1 in 4 children have reported seeing something upsetting on a social media site, and 38% of young people believe social media has a negative impact on how they feel about themselves.
At tootoot we like to use the acronym F.E.T.C.H to remind us of the pillars of happy and safe online use.
Fault – Always remember it’s not your fault.
Evidence – if something upsets you, screenshot the evidence and send it to a trusted adult or tootoot.
Think – always think before you post things online.
Choose – choose the sites you use carefully. Are they right for you?
Help – if something is worrying you, ask for help from a friend, teacher, or tootoot.
