How tootoot helped a student speak up about homelessness
To protect the student’s identity, the only details that can be shared is that they were a student at a learning provider in the North East of England.
We’ve been using the tootoot app for over six years now and have had a number of cases reported to us including bullying, mental health concerns and knife crime.
We work a lot with teenagers and young adult learners, one case reported by one of our students recently was a case of homelessness.
The student had issues at home and had to leave, with no one to turn to they had resorted to living in a tent in a local park. The student had been homeless for some time, unable to find the right support and embarrassed to ask for help.
“The student had been homeless for some time, unable to find the right support and embarrassed to ask for help.”
Things eventually got worse when they became harassed and intimidated at the park, at one point their tent was set on fire. The student finds it hard to open up to others and I’ve come to notice lives through their mobile phone, eventually, the student reached out to us through the tootoot app and asked for advice anonymously.
Thanks to the tootoot app, we were able to respond immediately, offering support and guidance and ultimately, get them the help they needed. We are currently assisting the student with homeless support organisations and raising money to help with their situation.
“Without tootoot I don’t think this student would have had the confidence to reach out”
Without tootoot I don’t think this student would have had the confidence to reach out, at least for some time and given the circumstances and potential danger they were in, their situation would have only gotten worse.
“tootoot gives us that extra line of communication with our students to ensure that no cases like this ever slip through the net.”
Our organisation provides learning and skills to thousands of young people but we also provide help and support for a wide range of issues young people can face, tootoot gives us that extra line of communication with our students to ensure that no cases like this ever slip through the net.
