Join us for Pupil Voice Week 2023

Written by Lucy Harvey on 13th September, 2023

After the success of last year’s ‘Solving Problems’ with over 600 schools and 320,000 pupils celebrating, Pupil Voice Week is back for its 8th year!

What is Pupil Voice Week?

Pupil Voice Week is an initiative started by tootoot. Each year Pupil Voice Week focuses on a different theme, this year we’re celebrating all of the incredible things that happen when our children and young people ‘Make their voice count’. More than one in ten children have no-one to talk to when they’re in school. We want children around the world to be confident to use their voice in any situation. Empowering children’s voices should be at the core of everything we do which is why we hold Pupil Voice Week every year at the end of September!

What is this year’s Pupil Voice Week theme?

This year’s theme is ‘Make your voice count’ and celebrates the fact that the voices of children and young people have the power to change the world.

We want to make sure children feel empowered to use their voices, and understand the value their voice has in society. This Pupil Voice Week has been created to give pupils the confidence to use their voice. Because when they do they improve their own happiness and wellbeing, and the happiness and wellbeing of those around them.

We’ve created a range of resources, assembly plans and classroom activities, made to engage and educate children and young people of all ages around the power and impact of using their voice.

Creating and maintaining conversations around pupil voice is so important for their ongoing wellbieng and happiness:

  • 14% of children and young people never like themselves (Ditch the Label, 2020)
  • 42% of children and young people have reported battling anxiety at some point (Ditch the Label 2020)
  • 1 in 8 children are currently unhappy in school (Children’s Society, 2022)
  • 32% of children have said something nasty to someone online (Ditch the Label, 2017)
  • UK children’s happiness with their lives has declined in the last 12 months (Children’s Society, 2022)
