Random acts of kindness during COVID-19 to brighten up your day
The Covid-19 outbreak has left many of us feeling anxious and scared, especially as the news cycle continues to focus on worrying topics such as the death rate, PPE availability and extending lockdown further.
However, it hasn’t all been bad news. There have been many individuals and organisations that have shown some amazing acts of kindness. We wanted to highlight some of this amazing work, and remind you what can be achieved by showing a little kindness in the world.

An assistant headteacher has been hailed a hero after walking five miles a day to deliver free school meals. Zane Powles has taken to the streets on foot to ensure that children who qualify don’t go without.

School praised for acts of kindness during the coronavirus outbreak
Students and staff at Ricards Lodge school in Wimbledon have been taking part in community acts that are aimed at supporting the vulnerable and key workers across Merton and surrounding boroughs. These acts have included donating science lab goggles to a hospital trust, collecting for food banks and taken donations of fresh fruit to care homes.

Cornwall woman launches #ViralKindness postcard
Cornwall woman Becky Wass, has created shareable cards that allow people to offer help to their neighbours. The cards, that read “Hello! If you are self-isolating, I can help,” have with spaces for a name, address, phone number and possible tasks that the recipient might need help with, including “picking up shopping” and “a friendly phone call”. Brighten someone’s day with a Random Act of Kindness
Whilst these are scary times, community has provided many of us with the support and hope that we need. Random acts of kindness strengthen this feeling of community in times of uncertainty and can have a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved.
Here are a few ideas from the tootoot team for quick and simple random acts of kindness you can do during this time:
1) Send a text, email or handwritten letter to a loved one
2) Arrange to watch a film at the same time as a friend and video call
3) Have a cupboard clear out and donate any unwanted, in date food to a foodbank
4) Offer to support a vulnerable neighbours
5) Tell someone you are thankful for them
