How tootoot has given pupils a voice at Chellaston Academy

Chellaston Academy, located in Derby, is a mixed-gender academy for students aged 11-18. It currently has around 1,785 pupils.

“We’ve been using tootoot for two years now and we’ve really seen the benefits of the anonymous reporting app.”

We’ve been using tootoot for two years now and we’ve really seen the benefits of the anonymous reporting app, we’ve had cases such as friendship issues and verbal bullying that we’ve dealt with instantly before it progresses into anything more serious.

One of our most recent cases involved a pupil reporting through tootoot anonymously that they had been called very nasty names by a boy in their class.

They identified the pupil responsible in their tootoot message and we realised that his name had been tagged recently in two other incidents logged in tootoot and that his general behaviour in school had been poor.

When we spoke to the pupil responsible he admitted what had happened. We explained to him why his behaviour and especially the nasty name calling was not ok.

“Without tootoot the pupil who reported may not have spoken up, or it may have taken them a little longer to say something if they couldn’t report it instantly in the tootoot app.”

Without tootoot the pupil who reported may not have spoken up, or it may have taken them a little longer to say something if they couldn’t report it instantly in the tootoot app. We were able to to deal with the case quickly and effectively and stop the name calling.

Throughout the whole process we were able to keep the pupil who reported completely anonymous and deal with the case without them having to reveal their identity. This is one of the great features about tootoot, the fact that children can feel confident about reporting any concerns without worrying about being identified.

Because of tootoot we were also able to identify that the pupil responsible had been tagged in two recent cases, this let us assess his behavior as a whole before speaking to him. Records like this are a great way to monitor pupils behaviour and flag any issues they may have.
