Free resources, tools and websites to use during school closures

To help during these challenging times we have created a list of free tools, websites and resources that schools can use to support learning from home, knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Free websites and tools for teachers

1. Use Trello for collaborative classrooms and lesson plans

Trello is a visual collaboration tool used in classrooms worldwide to facilitate project-based learning, collaboration, and discussion.

*Free for G Suite customers
2. Google are Extending Hangouts Meet premium features to all G Suite customers

Enabling free access to more advanced features, including:

  • Larger meetings for up to 250 participants per call

  • Live streaming for up to 100K viewers within domain

  • Record meetings to Google Drive

These features are typically only available in the Enterprise and Enterprise for Education editions of G Suite, but they’ll be available to all G Suite editions at no additional cost until July 1, 2020.

3. Use WeTransfer to send learning from home documents (up to 2GB)

WeTransfer is a cloud-based online platform designed to allow you to transfer different types of files for free to other users on the Internet.

4. Stay up to date with free expert advice and practical information from Safeguarding Essentials

This is a great free service for teachers that provides the latest safeguarding and e-safety information and advice. Members can download a selection of school resources and an interactive e-safety checklist.

5. Skype for 1-on-1 online tutoring, Google Hangouts for online group lessons

Two great options for free video or voice calls, screen sharing, file sharing and chat.

6. Use Google Classroom to share assignments, homework and newsletters

Google Classroom is a free collaboration application for teachers and learners. Teachers can create online classrooms, ask students to attend the class, and create and give out assignments.

7. Use Kialo Edu for teaching critical thinking

Kialo Edu is a free platform, designed to encourage thoughtful classroom discussion and assist in the teaching of critical thinking.

8. Use EdTech​ Impact's database to find free and discounted edu-resources

EdTech Impact are updating their database of edu-resources daily, and have added a huge range of filters and options, such as "Duration of free access", "subject", and "category", plus have links to data privacy policies as standard.


Free teaching resources

1. Twinkl access to all resources for a month

Twinkl are offering free access to all resources for a period of one month. But have said they are committed to continuing to offer this help in the event of longer term closures.

2. Nuffield Health's free wellbeing resources

In these unprecedented times, we know it’s important for children to be able to continue to look after their health and wellbeing. Nuffield Health has created a children’s wellbeing journal filled with challenges and activities to keep children happy, healthy and active, whilst at home. 3. Nessy 4 week literacy curriculum 

Nessy are offering all primary schools that close for Coronavirus, free access to structured literacy curriculum for 4 weeks. The programs cover phonics, reading, sight words, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

4. Your Favourite Teacher access to GCSE resources

Your Favourite Teacher are offering free access to their online GCSE platform which covers the entire GCSE English Language, Literature and Maths curriculum, together with some Science, Geography and History content.

5. Teachit English free membership until the end of April

Until the end of April 2020, Teachit English are offering free, unlimited access to all adaptable Word documents, PowerPoints, Whiteboard activities and teaching packs.

6. Tootoot full access to all PSHE resources from the last 4-years

We are giving full access to our wide range of KS2 and KS3 PHSE resources for free (this includes lesson activities, lesson plans, assemblies with scripts and quizzes). 

7. Cre8tive Resources citizenship, business and PHSE home learning packs

Cre8tive Resources are offering a variety of free home learning packs from KS3 to A-Level. 

8. Classroom Secrets home learning packs

Classroom Secrets have created resource packs for each primary school year group to help students learn from home.

9. Go Noodle exercise and mindfulness

GoNoodle is free to use and gets kids up and moving to fun, engaging content and games. Children can enjoy dance parties, yoga sessions, mindfulness activities and games. 

10. Phonics Play full access to phonics resources

Phonics Play have given full access to all their phonics resources, which cover EYFS to Year-2.

11. Commando Joes home learning packs 

Commando Joes are offering free home learning packs themed around adventures for primary schools.
